Best overall: Lenovo Slim 7i Carbon
If you’re looking for a premium laptop with high-end performance, a great display, and s very thin and light design, then the Lenovo Slim 7i Carbon is the one for you. This is a very powerful machine, but it still comes in a compact package, and it’s ideal for students or anyone who cares about mobility.
Let’s start with performance, which is about as good as it gets for something this light. The Lenovo Slim 7i Carbon comes with the latest Intel P-series processors, in this case, a Core i7-1260P. That’s a very powerful CPU with 12 cores, 16 threads, and boost speeds up to 4.7GHz, and it’s going to breeze through just about any task related to work. It also includes Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics to power through some light GPU workloads, and this model comes with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. That gives you just about everything you need for a premium experience, and you can’t really ask for much more.
One of the highlights of the Lenovo Slim 7i Carbon is definitely the display, which is a 13.3-inch panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio. That’s a bit taller than the more traditional 16:9, and it’s a big benefit for productivity. Taller screen can show more content without requiring you to scroll as much, which is great for reading, writing, and even working on video editing so you can see more of your tracks. This panel is also super sharp, with a 2560 x 1600 resolution, plus it covers 100% of sRGB and it has a 90Hz refresh rate, which makes all kinds of motion feel a bit smoother and more fluid. Not many laptops have this, but it’s great to see.
Above the display, there’s a 720p webcam, which isn’t going to be the best for video calls, but it should do the trick if you’re not using it too frequently. That’s probably the biggest downside to this machine, especially considering many other laptops are switching to 1080p these days. On the bright side, the webcam does have Windows Hello facial recognition, which is always very welcome.
Lenovo focused heavily on making this a very thin and light laptop, and it definitely succeeded. Despite the powerful specs, the Lenovo Slim 7i Carbon weighs a mere 2.19lbs, and it’s just 14.8mm thin. The laptop is made from carbon fiber and a magnesium-aluminum alloy, which is how it manages to be so thin and light. It also comes in a dual-tone Storm Grey colorway, with the lid being a darker Onyx Grey, and it looks really nice, but subdued.
A downside of this thin design, however, is the port selection, which is pretty limited. All you get is a Thunderbolt 4 port and a regular USB Type-C (USB 3.2 Gen 2) port. That makes connecting peripherals a bit harder, but since it supports Thunderbolt, you can use a Thunderbolt dock to add a lot of high-speed connections, so you’re not completely out of options.
Overall, this is a great laptop in multiple ways. It has all the elements you need for top-notch performance plus a great screen that’s both sharp and smooth, all packed into a super thin and light design. If you want a laptop you can take anywhere and you don’t need a ton of peripherals, this is a fantastic choice.
- The Lenovo Slim 7i Carbon is an extremely portable laptop that still packs top-notch performance and a great screen.

Best convertible laptop at Walmart: MSI Summit E14 Flip
What if you want a fast and premium laptop that also is a bit more versatile? If you’re like me, you probably can’t fathom buying a laptop that’s not a convertible, and if that’s the case, then the MSI Summit E14 Flip is likely the best laptop you can find at Walmart right now.
Performance-wise, it’s not too dissimilar from the laptop above. This is powered by the same Intel Core i7-1260P, with the same 12 cores, 16 threads, and 4.7GHz speeds. It also still includes Intel Iris Xe graphics. Aside from that, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD round out a great premium experience, making sure you’re really not missing out on anything. There are a couple of other configurations available, including one with a Core i5 processor and a 512GB SSD if you want something cheaper. There’s also a version with 32GB of RAM if you want to get the best performance possible.
The best part about this laptop, however, is the display. This is a 14-inch panel, and it also comes in a 16:10 aspect ratio, making it ideal for productivity. But that’s not the best part. This is an OLED panel and it comes in a super-sharp 2.8K resolution (2880 x 1800). It also covers 100% of DCI-P3, and simply put, this is one of the best displays you can find right now. In addition to being sharp, being an OLED display means you get vibrant colors and true blacks, because pixels can simply turn off completely when they’re black. This also results in very high contrast ratios, so the viewing experience is phenomenal. And of course, since this is a convertible, touch and pen support are included by default and you can also this as a tablet or in a variety of different modes for different situations.
There’s more good news above the screen, too. The MSI Summit E14 Flip is packing a 1080p webcam, which should help you look significantly better during video calls and online meetings. This is something we’re seeing more of, and it’s great that MSI is keeping up. The camera also supports Windows Hello facial recognition with an IR sensor, in addition to having a fingerprint reader.
In terms of design, the MSI Summit E14 Flip comes in an all-black finish, which looks clean and sleek, and it can be taken anywhere without drawing too much unwanted attention. The laptop weighs 3.61lbs and it measures 16mm in thickness so while it’s not the most portable machine around, it’s still fairly easy to carry around, and it’s about what you’d expect for a convertible.
Thankfully, the Summit E14 Flip is also not lacking ports. You get two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB Type-A port, HDMI, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader, meaning all the basics are covered. You can plug in some legacy peripherals with USB Type-A, use an external display easily, or get even more ports with Thunderbolt. While it’s not the only one to have a setup like this, it’s certainly a great selection of ports for a laptop of this size.
Personally speaking, the MSI Summit E14 Flip is my favorite laptop on this list, particularly because it’s a convertible, but also thanks to that fantastic display, high-end performance, and varied port selection, which makes it easier to plug in peripherals in a pinch. Plus, that webcam is a very welcome bonus. You can check it out below, or check out the Core i5 version here. The Core i7 version with 32GB of RAM is also available here.
- The MSI Summit E14 Flip is a premium convertible laptop with a stunning OLED display and top-notch performance

Best gaming laptop at Walmart: Lenovo Legion 5i Pro
If you’re more of a gamer, Lenovo’s latest Legion 5i Pro is probably the best choice for you. This laptop is packing some powerful specs to handle the latest games without too much of an issue, and it’s got a great display for gaming, too.
With gaming laptops, it’s all about performance, and the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro has plenty of it to offer. It comes with an Intel Core i7-12700H processor, which is a 14-core, 20-thread processor that can boost up to 4.7GHz. This is a 45W processor, so it’s going to be much faster than your typical ultrabook, both for gaming and just about anything else In fact, this is one of the fastest laptop processors around right now. That powerful CPU is backed up by an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card that can use up to 150W of power, which is enough to make this a very powerful gaming laptop that can handle just about any modern game without any problems. You also get 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD for storage, which gives you a solid amount of space for your games. You can always upgrade the RAM and storage later if you need more.
This is also a fantastic display for gaming, but not just that. This is a large 16-inch panel, and it also comes in a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is great for productivity, as we’ve mentioned. This model specifically comes with a Quad HD+ (2560 x 1600) panel, which is very sharp for a screen of this size, and it has a 165Hz refresh rate. This is the ideal balance of sharpness and fluidity, and it makes this a great laptop for both work and competitive gaming. It also covers 100% of sRGB and it supports DisplayHDR 400.
Above that display, there’s a webcam which is unfortunately still 720p resolution. This isn’t uncommon for gaming laptops, especially more affordable ones like this, but it’s still not ideal. In addition to this, there’s no Windows Hello facial recognition, and the laptop also doesn’t have a fingerprint reader, so unlocking your PC isn’t as simple as we’d like. You’ll need to type in your password or PIN every time.
All those powerful specs mean the Legion 5i Pro isn’t exactly a small laptop, and that’s not really unexpected. This machine is just under 20mm thick, and it weighs 5.49lbs, so it’s not really something you want to carry around all the time. But if you want a powerful laptop you can take to a friend’s house, this is certainly a good option. This particular model comes in a Storm Grey color, and it looks fine, though some may find it a bit boring. There isn’t much in the way of RGB lighting, which you may like or not depending on how flashy you want to be.
Rounding things out with ports, the Legion 5i Pro has two USB Type-C ports on the right (one with Thunderbolt 4 support), plus a USB Type-A and a headphone jack on the left, but most ports are actually on the back. The rear ports include two USB Type-A ports, one USB Type-C port, HDMI, and RJ45 Ethernet, rounding out a very capable set of ports that should cover anyone’s needs without needing any adapters. It’s typical for gaming laptops to have a lot of ports, and this one delivers.
All in all, if you want a powerful gaming laptop, the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro is the best option you can find at Walmart right now. These specs ensure you can run just about any game, and it will look great on this screen. Plus, it’s good for work, too.
- The Lenovo Legion 5i Pro is a very powerful gaming laptop with top-tier specs and a great display

Best business laptop: HP EliteBook 840 G9
If you’re more about work and less about play, the HP EliteBook 840 G9 is one of the best business laptops you can find at Walmart. This is a high-performance 14-inch laptop with features tailored for business users, making it ideal for work. It also includes Windows 11 Pro, which has some extra features like Hyper-V, Remote Desktop, and other manageability features for work.
First off, in terms of performance, the HP EliteBook 840 G8 is one of the best ultrabooks you can find. It comes with a 12th-generation Intel Core i7-1255U processor. That means it’s one of the faster versions of Intel’s 15W processors, with 10 cores, 12 threads, and boost speeds up to 4.7GHz so it can handle most work-related tasks without a hitch. It also still includes Iris Xe graphics, so some GPU-focused workloads are possible with this laptop. In addition to that, you get 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD for storage. That’s a solid amount of RAM and storage and it should be more than enough to last yu a long time, but these components are also upgradeable alter on if you need more.
The display isn’t overly high-end, but it’s great for getting work done. It’s a 14-inch panel and it comes in the 16:10 aspect ratio, making it ideal for productivity. That’s actually a big upgrade from the previous iteration of this model, which only had a 16:9 aspect ratio. It comes in Full HD+ (1920 x 1200) resolution, and while there are higher-resolution panels out there, this certainly offers a great experience for work, and you shouldn’t need anything better.
Above that display, there’s a webcam, and it’s probably the best webcam you’ll find on a laptop. HP uses a high-resolution 5MP sensor that supports 1080p video, but it also has smart features like auto framing and lighting correction. This helps ensure you always look your best in video calls and meetings. Plus, Windows Hello facial recognition is supported, in addition to a fingerprint reader, so this is a stellar setup. You can also cover the webcam with the physical privacy shutter, something business users often like.
In terms of design, the HP EliteBook 840 G9 is about as standard as they come. This is a silver-colored aluminum laptop, which you might like if you’re looking for a business device, since it won’t get unwanted attention in the office. It’s not exactly the most lightweight device, coming in at 2.99lbs, and it’s 19.3mm thick, so it’s not super slim, either. This isn’t too shocking for an aluminum laptop, though, and you should still be able to carry it around without much of an issue.
Business laptops also tend to have a wealthy supply of ports, and the EliteBook 840 G8 is no exception. You get two Thunderbolt 4 ports – which already gives you a lot of expansion options – two USB Type-A ports, HDMI, a headphone jack, and a proprietary barrel charger. The only thing potentially missing here is Ethernet, but whether that matters or not varies a lot depending on your use case, and this isn’t too surprising for a 14-inch laptop anyway.
Overall, this is a great business laptop in many ways, with solid performance, some upgradeability, and lots of ports to choose from. It’s an easy commendation.
- The HP EliteBook 840 G9 is a powerful business laptop with a premium design and upgrade options.

Best budget clamshell: Gateway 14.1″ Ultra Slim Notebook
If you’re on a tight budget but you still want a solid laptop, this 15-inch Gateway laptop is frankly a very compelling entry-level offering. Gateway may not be the first name you think of when it comes to laptops, but aside from the name, everything comes together quite nicely in the Gateway 14.1 Ultra Slim Notebook.
First off, performance-wise, it’s frankly a solid PC for occasional users and younger students. It’s already packing 12th-generation Intel Cor processors, with this model in particular using an Intel Core i5-1235U, with 10 cores, 12 threads, and boost speeds up to 4.4GHz. That’s actually a very fast processor and great to see at this price point, plus it includes Intel Iris Xe graphics as well. Beyond that, the laptop comes with 8GB of RAM and a large 512GB SS, so you-ve got everything you need for a really good experience here. For this price point, this isn’t bad at all, and that’s the theme with this laptop.
The display on the Gateway 14.1 Ultra Slim is also pretty solid. It’s a 14-inch panel and it comes in the more traditional 16:9 aspect ratio, and while that’s a bit of a downside compared to more expensive laptops, it’s completely expected in this price range. It’s a Full HD (1920 x 1080) panel, which is also right in line with what you might expect at this price. In fact, some laptops at this price have worse panels, so this is great to see.
Perhaps the most surprising thing about this laptop is that, despite being a budget device, it still has a good webcam. This is usually one of the first things to go when making a budget device, but the Gateway 14.1 Ultra Slim still has a nice 1080p webcam, so you should look pretty good during video calls and meetings. It doesn’t have Windows Hello facial recognition, which isn’t surprising for a budget laptop, but you do get a fingerprint sensor if you want an easier way to unlock your PC.
Design-wise, the Gateway 14.1 Ultra Slim isn’t all too impressive, but being made of plastic means it does come in a few colors, which means you can get something that’s just right for your personal style. You can choose from silver, black, dark blue, or pink, and that last one is definitely the more unique of the bunch. Even if you don’t like pink, this is at least a way for your laptop to stand out a bit more. This isn’t winning any awards for portability, weighing 3.65lbs and measuring 20.3mm in thickness, which kind of goes against its Ultra Slim branding. However, it’s still decently easy to move around, and for this price, it’s not too shocking that it’s a bit chunky.
Finally, in terms of ports, there’s a pretty wide supply of them, so at least it’s making use of that large chassis. You get one USB Type-C port, three USB Type-A ports, HDMI, a headphone jack, and a microSD card slot. There’s no Thunderbolt support, as you’d expect from a cheap device, but considering you have plenty of ports built in, that’s not a huge issue.
Overall, the Gateway 14.1 Ultra Slim Notebook is definitely worth a look if you’re looking for a capable laptop on the cheap, and one of the best laptops you can get at Walmart in this price range.
- If you need an affordable laptop, the Gateway 14.1 delivers a solid all-around experience at a great price.

Best budget convertible: HP Pavilion x360 14
If you have some more money to spare and you want a convertible instead of a typical clamshell, it’s hard to go wrong with the HP Pavilion x360 14. While this is pricier than something like the Gateway we mentioned above, the convertible form factor may make the difference for you, and HP is admittedly more of a recognizable brand, so there are reasons to prefer it.
Performance is actually a little but below what the laptop above offers, specifically because this device is still packing Intel 11th-generation processors. It comes with an Intel Core i5-1135G7, which, to be clear is still a very capable processor. For one thing, this is a 4-core, 8-thread CPU, and it can boost up to 4.2GHz. Plus, it also includes Intel Iris Xe graphics, which are nearly identical to the 12th-generation model, so there’s not much missing in that department. You might be able to play some older games or even less demanding modern games at lower settings. For RAM and storage, you get 8GB and 256GB, respectively. That’s not overly impressive, but it’s still very much what you’d expect in this price range.
The display is also solid, being a 14-inch panel with a 16:9 aspect ratio and small bezels on most edges. It’s also Full HD, which is perfectly acceptable on a screen of this size. Of course, since it’s a convertible, it’s also a touchscreen, so you can use it as a tablet if you want to. That’s the big reason why you might prefer this over the Gateway laptop above, and it’s frankly a good enough reason. Convertible laptops are great, and personally, I’d always rather buy one over a traditional clamshell.
However, the webcam is a bit of a downgrade, with HP using a 720p camera in the Pavilion x360. This isn’t ideal, but it’s serviceable if you don’t need to use a webcam that often. There’s also no Windows Hello facial recognition, but you do get a fingerprint sensor if you want an easier way to unlock the laptop.
The design of the Pavilion x360 14 is fairly standard for a convertible. It uses aluminum for its chassis, so it’s a bit more premium than the Gateway laptop listed above. Plus, despite being a convertible, it’s thinner and lighter than that laptop, too. It does look a bit more boring since it only comes in silver, but it’s going to feel very nice in the hand.
As for ports, the Pavilion x360 14 comes packing one USB Type-C port without Thunderbolt, two USB Type-A ports, HDMI, a headphone jack, a full-size SD card reader, and a proprietary barrel charging connector. It’s a solid setup of ports that should allow you to connect all the peripherals you want without needing adapters. Again, there’s no Thunderbolt, which is expected in a budget device,
Overall, if you prefer the convertible form factor, the HP Pavilion x360 is certainly a fantastic choice, and it manages to still be thinner and lighter than the Gateway laptop above. Personally speaking, I’d always choose the convertible because of that form factor, but both of these are great devices.
- The HP Pavilion x360 14 is a relatively affordable convertible that offers solid performance and a modern design.

Best laptop for creators at Walmart: MSI Creator Z16
Interested in photo or video editing? The MSI Creator Z16 is a laptop aimed at creative professionals, mixing powerful specs with a sharp display and wrapping it all up in a subdued design that looks great anywhere. If you’re looking to buy a great laptop at Walmart, this should probably be the one.
Starting with performance, the MSI Creator Z16 is packing an Intel Core i7-12700H CPU, which has 14 cores and 20 threads and is capable of boosting up to 4.8GHz. This is a 45W processor, so it’s going to be significantly faster than most of the laptops on this list. CPU performance is particularly important if you’re planning to do video editing, so this is a fantastic choice if that’s your goal. To accelerate these kinds of tasks even further, it also helps to have a powerful GPU, and the MSI Creator Z16 packs an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 with 6GB of video memory and up to 70W of power. That’s a fairly powerful GPU, and it’s going to give you a big boost in performance if you’re editing video or doing other kinds of creative work. You also get 16GB of RAM 1TB SSD is bound to hold plenty of files, though depending on your work, resorting to external may be unavoidable at some point. 16GB of RAM is also something you may want to expand later on, but it’s far from bad.
Creative professionals will also appreciate the high-quality display on the Creator Z16, which is one of the best out of any laptop on this list. For starters, this is a 16-inch display, but it comes in the 16:10 aspect ratio. On top of that, it’s very sharp, coming in at Quad HD+ resolution (2560 x 1600), so everything will look fantastic. Plus, the display covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and rated color accuracy of Delta E < 2 – another aspect that’s important for creators – and it supports touch, too. Plus, it has a smooth 120Hz refresh, so you can also use it for gaming.
Above the display, there’s a 720p webcam, which isn’t all that great for a laptop this expensive, but it’s clearly not the priority. The webcam does have an IR sensor for Windows Hello facial recognition, so at least it makes it pretty convenient to unlock your PC.
Design-wise, the MSI Creator Z16 is a pretty sleek-looking laptop, coming in a fairly standard silver color and without much in the way of flair or odd design quirks. It does have an RGB backlit keyboard, but you can always turn that off or configure it to be more subtle. It looks like a work laptop, which is probably what you want. Considering its specs, it’s actually pretty thin at 15.9mm, and it weighs 4.85lbs, so while it’s fairly heavy, it could be a lot worse.
In terms of ports, you get two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB Type-A ports, a headphone jack, and a full-size SD card reader. It’s a solid setup, though the exclusion of a traditional display output like HDMI seems a bit odd for this kind of laptop.
Despite some odd omissions, the MSI Creator Z16 is a fantastic laptop if you’re looking for something you can use for creative work, whether that’s photo or video editing, or some form of 3D rendering, and it’s one of the best laptops you can find at Walmart.
- The MSI Creator Z16 offers powerful specs and color-accurate display that's great for creative professionals.

Best Chromebook at Walmart: Samsung Galaxy Chromebook
Finally, for the Chrome OS fans out there, we have what’s still one of the very best laptops you can find at Walmart. The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook has received a successor, but in some ways, it’s still much better.
First off, let’s talk performance, which may be a point of concern at first. The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook is packing a 10th-generation Intel Core processor, specifically the Core i5-10210U. This is a 4-core, 8-thread processor, and it can boost up to 4.2GHz. It’s not Intel’s most recent, but it’s not really old either. Plus, that’s still a very solid configuration considering a large portion of Chromebooks come with Intel Celeron or low-power ARM processors. This is still going to perform exceptionally well on Chrome OS. Aside from that, you get 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, and again, that’s a great combination for a Chrome OS laptop. This is a much more lightweight operating system than Windows, so this is more than enough to have a great experience
What truly makes this a fantastic laptop, though, is its display. The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook has one of the best displays you’ll find on any laptop. First off, it’s a 13.3-inch panel, and it uses the more typical 16:9 aspect ratio. Some may consider it a negative, but for media consumption, this is the ideal format. And consuming media is the ideal use case for this display since it comes in an incredibly sharp 4K resolution (3820 x 2160), and on top of that, this is an AMOLED panel, which is only seldom seen on laptops, let alone Chromebooks. Everything you look at on this display will look fantastic – vivid colors, true blacks, and high contrast ratios are all benefits of AMOLED panels such as this one.
An interesting aspect of the Galaxy Chromebook is that it actually has two cameras. The camera above the display uses 720p resolution, which isn’t particularly impressive, but there’s another camera on the keyboard deck. This is so you can use it to take pictures of what’s in front of you by using the laptop in tablet mode, and it has an 8MP sensor that’s much better than the one above the display. There’s no IR-based facial recognition here since Chrome doesn’t support it, but you do get a fingerprint sensor for secure login.
Unfortunately, the red variant of this laptop has gone out of stock at Walmart, so now you’re stuck with the grey model, which is a bit more boring, Still, this is a premium-built laptop that looks and feels great. It’s also extremely thin, measuring just 9.9mm, and it weighs 2.29lbs, so portability is a big focus here.
Being that thin does mean you don’t get a ton of ports, so you’re limited to two USB Type-C ports, a microSD card reader, and a headphone jack. Again, it’s not ideal, but it’s a necessary compromise being this thin and light. However, it would have been nice to at least get Thunderbolt support. Overall, this is one of the best Chrome OS laptops you can find at Walmart, and one of the best Chromebooks in general. Right now, this one is a bit expensive, but it tends to be discounted often, so we recommend checking it out. If you want something more conventionally cheap, the Lenovo 500e Chromebook is another great options especially for young children.
- The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook has one of the best displays out of any Chrome OS laptop, and it comes in a stylish premium design.

Pros: Cons: |
And those are what we’d consider the best laptops you can find at Walmart this holiday season. If you’re looking for something that’s more of a safe bet for the majority of users, the Lenovo Slim 7i Carbon is never a bad choice. It’s a powerful laptop with high-end specs, a great display, and a very thin and light design that works well for just about anyone. There’s a little something for everyone here, though, so if that doesn’t seem like the best option, there are many others worth looking at. Personally speaking, the MSI Summit E14 Flip is the most appealing to me because of the convertible form factor and that stunning OLED panel. But your opinion could very well be different.
As a reminder, all of the Windows laptops on this list are shipping with Windows 11, or they support upgrading for free, at least. If you haven’t yet, check out our Windows 11 review to see why we think it’s a great version of Windows. Also check out what’s new in Windows 11 version 22H2 to see what else is coming soon.
